Brooklyn - Be Here Now City & Landmark Art Print Series

This print would later become the first of many prints themed around cities and landmarks. Being the first in a series it shows the wear n tear and growing pains of an illustrator, but hey you always got to start somewhere! Brooklyn is a 5 color screen print  and the first time that I can really remember embracing over printing colors for added visual effect.
Brooklyn was hand drawn as two separate illustrations, the building line work was created as one piece and then the textures were created as a second illustration. This process allowed me to print some building textures such as siding or bricks in different colors than the colors printed over and under them. As you see in the photo above the 2nd brownstone has it's texture of bricks printed under the main house color, where as the 4th house is printed more traditionally with key line over the top of the fill color.
I really tried to push myself both with the hand illustration and the hand printing process to get in as many of the little details of Brooklyn as possible.
I picked one home per favorite neighborhood of mine. Knowing that if all of the homes were from say Greenpoint that would discourage folks from Williamsburg from purchasing the print. The citizens of Brooklyn have an enormous amount of pride for their small cut of the land and by keeping the print diverse to the area, I was able to steer clear of the Brooklyn turf wars.
Brooklyn is a 20" x 16" 5 color silkscreened art print.
